The Entering Theological Education Grant is available to new Emmanuel College domestic students who are admitted to:

  • a conjoint basic degree program (MDiv, MPS, MSMus or MTS), or
  • a conjoint post-baccalaureate certificate program.

The goal of this grant is to provide each entering full-time student with 50 per cent tuition support for the first 12 months within initial registration. 

Regretfully, non-degree, non-conjoint basic students, including those attending under Letter of Permission, are ineligible for this tuition grant.

Terms and Conditions

  1. The tuition grant is available only to a new student admitted to a conjoint basic degree (BD) program (MDiv, MPS, MSMus or MTS) or conjoint post-baccalaureate certificate (Cert) program, and is registered as full-time during the academic year (September to December and/or January to April).
  2. A grant application is required and due by August 30.
  3. The tuition grant is available only to a student who is a Canadian citizen, Native Canadian, permanent resident or protected person, and qualifies to pay domestic tuition rates as defined by the University of Toronto.
  4. Full-time studies is defined for the:
    1. Conjoint basic degree program as a standard course load of 2.5 full-course equivalent (FCE) credits per fall or winter session
    2. Conjoint post-baccalaureate certificate program as a standard course load of 1.75 FCE credits per fall or winter session
  5. The tuition grant will cover up to 50% of the cost of tuition for courses required by the student’s basic degree or certificate program. Up to a total of 5.0 FCE for BD students and 3.5 FCE for Cert students.
  6. Courses taken in the summer session are included in the grant only if they are Emmanuel College courses and within the total FCE limit.
  7. The grant is applicable for the first 12 months within initial registration.
  8. The Entering Theological Education Grant cannot be deferred, transferred or extended.
  9. A recipient of this grant is ineligible for Emmanuel College financial assistance (bursary).
  10. If an entering student receives external support aside from government student loans that covers 50 per cent or more of the program tuition, the student will be ineligible for this entrance grant.
  11. Courses dropped after the 100 per cent refund date of each session will be counted towards the FCE total limit, and any remaining balance cannot be transferred or extended.
  12. If a student’s registration status changes from full-time to part-time, the college may request the student to pay back a portion of the grant.
  13. Paying the remaining 50 per cent of the cost of tuition in a timely manner is the responsibility of the student.
  14. Paying the regular applicable incidental, ancillary and other fees in a timely manner are the responsibility of the student.
  15. A student must be in good academic standing. A student who is no longer in good standing may not be able to continue to benefit from the tuition grant at the discretion of the Basic Degree Committee and the Basic Degree Financial Assistance Committee.  The college may request the student to pay back a portion of the grant.
  16. Payment of the tuition grant is processed and deposited into a student’s ACORN account after the last day to drop without academic penalty in each session.
  17. A student who has been granted on-admission transfer or shared credit courses is only eligible for a pro-rated tuition grant. A BD student who receives 5.0 FCE on-admission transfer or shared credit courses towards the degree program is ineligible for the tuition grant.
  18. The following courses are excluded from the grant: Letter of Permission, Reading and Research (independent study), Pastoral/Supervised Counselling Education (PCE) units offered through another educational institution and Non-Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units.
  19. Extra courses above and beyond the program requirements are ineligible.
