Emmanuel College, Victoria University Mourn Robert Hung Ngai Ho
Emmanuel College, together with the Victoria University community, mourns the passing of Mr. Robert Hung Ngai Ho, CM, OBC, who died peacefully in Vancouver on Nov. 30, 2025, at the age of 93. Ho was an influential philanthropist, journalist and advocate for the study and practice of contemporary Buddhism whose work has shaped institutions across Hong Kong, North America and the global Buddhist community.
Through the Tung Lin Kok Yuen Canada Society and the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation, Ho supported the development of Buddhist education that connects long-standing wisdom with the needs of contemporary society. Emmanuel College is grateful to have been among the institutions enriched by this vision. Grant funding from the Tung Lin Kok Yuen Canada Society has supported Emmanuel scholars and have strengthened the foundation of our Buddhist Studies program. His commitment to accessible, engaged learning continues to guide our work with students, faculty and community partners.
Ho’s legacy was grounded in his belief that before one can receive, one must learn to give. His dedication to service, cultural understanding and the advancement of Buddhist scholarship has had a lasting impact across many fields. We honour the generosity that shaped his life and the support that helped Emmanuel College cultivate programs that reflect compassion, reflection and interreligious understanding.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Greta, his children Robert and Kevin, his daughter-in-law Raquel and his grandchildren. May his memory be a continuing source of inspiration.
